Backyard Finds

Here are some things we spotted in our backyard this weekend.

I love it when things start to bloom in the spring!

Earthquake

On Friday evening, we got home from Robbie's banquet and felt a little tremor shake our house.  About an hour later a 5.1 earthquake hit La Habra, which is not far from us.  We were all in bed.  Lydia slept through it.  Robbie and I were still awake and Brian had just dozed off.  Brian woke up and we yelled to Robbie to stay in his safe place in his room.  It lasted for about 20-30 seconds.  We felt 6-7 aftershocks within the next hour and a few more the next day.  A few things fell off our shelves but nothing broke.  We are grateful for our safety and that our house is fine.  We are also grateful that we had an emergency plan so that Robbie knew where to be during the bigger one.

Basketball Banquet

Robbie had his awards banquet for basketball on Friday.  There was a potluck dinner at the beginning.

Robbie's coach nominated him and another teammate for their team's Sportsmanship award.

Later, his whole team won the Sportsmanship award for their division.
We are so proud of our boy and the good attitude that he has toward everything he does!

Writing by Lydia

Lydia's been interested in writing lately.  She sees Robbie writing for homework and wants to join in.  Throughout the day, she'll ask me to spell things for her and then pretend to write it down.

On Saturday, I had her trace her name.  After a few times she decided to try in on her own.  You can see it about half way down the page.  The "L" and "y" are pretty easy to see, but she spelled her whole name! She was so proud of herself!

Yo-yo

Robbie's been practicing his yo-yo skills.  He's got the throw down and return pretty good!
Next skill to perfect is the sleeper...

Chick

Robbie got this Easter chick from Great-Grandma Ginos when he was 2.  She loved that he would play it over and over and dance and dance.  We unpacked it again this year with he Easter decorations.  The kids still love it.  Lydi hadn't remembered it so the first few times she listened to it, she did the best belly laugh.

Play

Lydi loves to play at the park with her friends once a week.  These girls get along so well!

Jog-a-thon

Robbie's school had their annual Jog-a-thon on Friday.  I went to help for a little while.

 This boy loves to run!

Leprechaun Treasure Hunt

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  When the kids woke up they noticed a leprechaun left a treasure hunt for them to complete.  Robbie looks forward to this every year, and Lydi definitely got in on it this year.  Robbie even made a hunt for the leprechaun to complete!
It didn't take long to locate our rainbow and pot o' gold treasure!

Busy

We are feeling pretty busy around our house.  We signed Robbie up for a one-time track meet through the city.  Practices overlap a few weeks with basketball, so I feel like everyday we have some sort of practice to go to! He loves to run though and it's good to get out of the house! At our first practice we saw that another family in our ward signed up too.

At the park he practiced at, Lydi found a tree that had dropped a bunch of these pods.  They opened up like an alligator mouth, so she spent the entire hour collecting alligators, feeding them and building them homes.  I love how entertained she was.

Robbie received his 2nd trimester Accelerated Reader Award.  Here he is with the other first graders.

Showing his award to Lydi.

We went to Knott's on Saturday as a family.  It was really busy.  They are replacing 3 rides and redoing pavement in Camp Snoopy by summer time.  We are sad to see some favorites go, but excited to try something new.  Robbie and me on the carousel...my favorite!
To add to our schedule, I've hit the point in my pregnancy where I'm going to the doctor 2x/month.  Third trimester!  We are excited to meet our little boy!  Also, Robbie's teacher asked if he wanted to participate in the school science fair.  It's only required for 4-6 grade, but she knows that Robbie loves science.  He was so excited about it that I couldn't say no.  It will be fun to do an experiment with him. Luckily on a 1st grade level, it should be pretty simple.

Basketball

Robbie scored at his basketball game this week!  He's also improving on his defense. He's #21.
