Robbie's Birthday

Robbie turned 17  years old!  He still loves all things racing and cars. He's smart, competitive, caring, and a helper at home.

He wanted carne asada for dinner on Sunday and Outback on Monday.  He wanted Oreo truffles for his birthday treat.

For part of his birthday, Brian took Robbie and Thomas to a racing simulator.  They had a lot of fun!

Happy birthday, Robbie!

End of Year Celebrations

The elementary school had Lunch with a Loved One.  I picked up some Chik-fil-a and In-n-Out and barely made it in time!  It was fun to eat with the kids though.

They also had their Spring Music Concerts.  The music teacher does a great job of putting these together to show what the kids are learning.

Farmer in the Dell

Thomas learned recorder this year in music class.  Here he is playing Ode to Joy.

Thomas also had Gold Rush Day that I got to help out with.  They celebrate activities from early California history.  I ran the wagon races over the Sierra-Nevada mountains.  It was hilarious watching the kids figure it out.  Thomas got pretty good at it.

NJHS

Lydia got into National Junior Honor Society!  She had to maintain a certain GPA, give service, and apply for it.  She and her friend, Miya, were accepted.  The induction ceremony was on Tuesday.

We are so proud of her choices!  Love you, Lydia!

AALRR Retreat

Brian's firm had their partner retreat this past weekend in Carlsbad.  They haven't had one since 2019, so we were all looking forward to it.  We stayed at the Hyatt Aviara Resort.  We had a brunch after we checked into our room on Saturday morning.

Brian then had meetings to go to, so the kids and I walked around the property.

hanging out in our room

Then we reserved the Top Golf suite.  Brian was able to join us for a few minutes during his break.

Catherine and Thomas wanted to try out the pools and water slides next.  We got there 15 minutes before the slides closed for the day.  They were happy that we made it in time to try them out.

Lydia and I sat by the pool and enjoyed the fun.

Then we got ready for the Luau dinner that night.  We were a little early so Brian showed us where he had his meetings.  As a practice group leader, he got to sit on the stand.

Then we headed over to the Luau.

They had a Kid Zone full of arcade games and kid-friendly food.

Brian, Robbie and I headed into the adult dinner.  Robbie was happy to try out the filet mignon.  They also had karaoke with a live band for entertainment.  Brian was trying to get one of the kids to go up and sing a Green Day song with him.  The boys were not interested, but the girls said they would sing with him if they could sing Taylor Swift!  Ha ha.. So Taylor Swift it was!  They sang Shake It Off and it was so fun to see the crowd cheer them on.

The next morning we had a lovely breakfast on the terrace.  Brian had a few more meetings, so the kids and I listened to our Stake Conference on Zoom in the room before heading home.

It was fun to have another retreat together!

Lydia Appointments

Lydia had an orthodontics consultation this week and because of scheduling, we decided to put her braces on that day!  She was not expecting that but she's been rocking them.

On Friday, the middle school had a family picnic day, so Brian and I had lunch with Lydia.  Because of the braces, she wasn't up to eating much so we brought her her favorite smoothie from Jamba Juice.  It was fun to hang out with her.

After school, Brian then took her to her annual optometry appointment.  Her eyes are mostly stable, just a small change in her prescription this year.

Helpers

Lydia and Robbie are great helpers at home.  This week, Lydia put her new mixer from her birthday to work and made us a few treats and breakfast on Mother's Day.

Our doorbell quit working, so Robbie helped Brian install a new one!  It was a great project for them to work on together.

Open House

Thomas and Catherine had Open House at their school this week.  Catherine has loved 1st grade with Mrs. Klein.  She loves everything about school and had such a great year!

Thomas has loved 4th grade with Mrs. Nelson.  She was awarded Teacher of the Year this year.  He has loved the classroom government and responsibilities he has in her classroom.

It's been a great year!  I'm so grateful for kids who work hard at school!

Lydia's Birthday

Lydia turned 13 on Friday!!  She will be an awesome teenager!  She loves to run, bake, and read Harry Potter.  She's a great student and helper at home.  We love you, Lydia!

Brian took her out to breakfast before school.

After school, she requested Black Bear Diner for dinner and then she opened presents.

Then we all got to eat her favorite Sorting Hat cupcakes that she makes every year on her birthday!

OC Zoo

I got to chaperone Catherine's field trip to the OC Zoo.  It was a cute little zoo, with mostly rescue animals.  It was fun to spend the day together!
