General Conference

General Conference was really great this weekend. I love listening to the speakers and feeling the Spirit so strongly in our home. I felt there was much said about service this time, but the talk that really stood out for me was by Elder Lynn G. Robbins of the Quorum of the Seventy. He spoke of not just "doing", but "being" what the Lord wants of us, as well as encouraging that in our children. I think we will be happier in general when we know that we are becoming instead of just doing. Doing seems so mundane to me and I struggle with just going through the motions of things sometimes, or doing something just because we are supposed to. When we realize that we "do" things so that we can "become" what the Lord would have us be, it seems less mundane because you are building on what you already are. It brings the bigger picture into view and makes life worthwhile. I also loved his tips on teaching children to "become" instead of just "doing" the right things. I think children will be better disciplined, well adjusted, good people when we teach and discipline as he suggests. Obviously it's harder than it sounds, but I'm going to try it because the principles are what I want for my kids.
You can watch/listen/download all the talks here.

Sweet Moment

On Friday, we were searching all over the house for one of Robbie's library books. It was due that day, and we really needed to find it! I had a thought that we should pray to find where it was. Robbie and I said a little prayer and then sat there to think about new places we should look. He suggested the car (which I was pretty sure we hadn't taken it there), but I was going to humor him, so we went out to look. He jumped up in the car and found it in the very back seat where I would have never looked! He climbed out of the car and said, "Heavenly Father just help me remember that I put it there!" I was so proud of him! He's such a sweet spirit, and I love that he can listen to the Spirit even though Mommy thinks he's having a crazy thought. ;-)

Hot Wheels Champion

This weekend while Grandpa Wheeler was here, we had a Hot Wheels tournament. It's been the most anticipated event for a while at our house.
Grandpa brought his 5 fastest cars and Robbie found his 5 fastest cars. It was a duel like no other! Sayings like, "Grandpa, you're going down!" and "I'm gonna beat you!" could be heard leading up to the big fight for pink slips.
In the end, Robbie proved to be the fastest Hot Wheels Champion of all time.
He even has the Piston Cup to prove it!Thanks for a great tournament, Grandpa!

Wedding

We went to Bobby's wedding this weekend (Brian's brother). It was in San Diego so it was nice to get away for a day and see family.

Young Ambassadors

On Saturday, we went to see the BYU Young Ambassadors in Irvine. I was so excited! I've been wanting to go for quite a while. Brian tried to take me 8 years ago when he got sick and couldn't make it. But we finally made it! Robbie loved that he knew a few of the songs. It was a great show! Thanks for taking us, Brian!

Growing Up and Letting Go

In the grocery store, I normally have Robbie in the front of the basket. Some may say he is a little old/ too heavy for this, but with all of the nuts/nut products that are within easy access of his height, it eases my mind to have him in the cart. Well, in an effort to prepare myself for grocery shopping with TWO kiddies, I'm trying to take the next step and allow him to walk since they both can't fit in the cart with food. For a while now, we have been working on him pointing out these products to me, so that I know that he knows to stay away from them. He is quite good at this and can point out all kinds of nuts and their products. This week we took the big step. I was so proud of him! We found this little cart made just for him. He was careful not to run anyone over, stayed by me, helped me find the things on our list, and even decided which basket (his or mine) they would fit into. He's going to be such a great big brother and a huge helper to me when the baby comes!
