Endeavor

The arrival of the Endeavor has been a big to-do around LA.  It's going to be displayed at the California Science Center at Exposition Park.  Friday morning the only thing broadcast on the TV was the flight of the space shuttle.  It made flyover appearances all over the state.  I knew that one of the places it was going to fly over was Disneyland so I was hoping I'd get to see it by our house.  When I saw on the news that it was in the LA area, I took Lydia and my camera out to our playground across the street to wait for it.  We were out there for about 15 minutes and it was getting hot (p.s. and by the way, why is LA still in the 90s?  I want fall!).  Anyway, I heard the shuttle and the two fighter jets accompanying it before I could see it.

The neighbors across from us came out on their balconies. The construction workers building houses in our tract stopped for a few minutes.  We all cheered and clapped in awe of how amazing this machine was and the history behind it.

It was really quite spectacular and I'm so glad I got to witness the final voyage.

Fun fact: While I lived in Colorado growing up, my dad had a temporary assignment in Florida.  The day that Endeavor arrived in Florida (1991) was during the week my mom went out to visit him.    She had her camera and a great view from their apartment.  (Later she found that her camera didn't have film in it!)  So my family has seen the beginning and final flights of Endeavor!

On it's way to Disneyland

A few minutes later I could see it in the haze on it's way to Seal Beach.  It's just above the left corner of the building.
I'm grateful to have seen a part of American history!

Side note: Here's a few pictures of Lydia playing while we waited for the Endeavor to arrive.
